Biopsy
In one sentence
A biopsy removes a small tissue sample so it can be examined under a microscope — the definitive step in most cancer diagnoses.

Why it matters
Imaging suggests; tissue confirms. Grade, type and molecular markers from a biopsy shape the entire treatment plan, which is why oncology rarely starts without one.
What to expect
Most biopsies are outpatient procedures under local anaesthesia. Waiting for results is often the hardest part — ask when and how you will receive them, and from whom.
Patient education
Definitions explain terms; they do not interpret your individual results or replace a consultation.
