Why it matters
Modern high-sensitivity troponin tests are central to diagnosing heart attacks: a rising pattern across serial measurements, combined with symptoms and ECG changes, confirms cardiac injury. A single mildly elevated value is interpreted in context.
When it is measured
Emergency departments measure troponin for chest pain, breathlessness and collapse. If you are told yours is elevated, the next question is always the trend — which is why repeat sampling matters.
