Why it matters
It is the classic reason laser vision correction is refused: removing tissue from an already-weak cornea can accelerate the disease. Screening for its earliest signs is a core purpose of the pre-operative corneal map.
What can be done
Cross-linking can stabilise progression; specialised lenses restore vision in many cases. Being told you have early keratoconus is a redirection, not a dead end.
