Glossary term Hair & Skin

Donor area

In one sentence

The donor area is the band of scalp at the back and sides whose follicles are genetically resistant to pattern hair loss.

The donor area is the band of scalp at the back and sides whose follicles are genetically resistant to pattern hair loss.

Why it matters

Everything a transplant can achieve is limited by this reserve. Density, follicle calibre and skin laxity here decide how many grafts can be moved safely — which is why an honest assessment starts at the back of your head, not the front.

When to ask questions

Ask how your donor capacity was measured and what will remain untouched for possible future sessions. A depleted donor area cannot be refilled.
